Computer Running Slow

Most often or not we get calls from people who are suffering a reduction in computer performance, so much so that it has caused their computer to stop altogether.

This is not the end of the world and is in fact a normal part of the Windows operating system. Every time a web page is visited or a program is opened a temporary file is stored on the computer. Although temporary these files are not deleted automatically, so you need to clean your computer on a regular basis.

Of course knowing where all these files are stored is a lot to remember and so there are programs on the market that will do this cleaning and maintenance for you. Each computer engineer has there favorite and mine is a simple program from the makers of AVG antivirus: www.iobit.com

They make a program called Advanced SystemCare It is available in a free version and will take care of most of your needs for computer maintenance.

Once downloaded and installed simply click the button in the middle labelled “Care!”and let the software do its job. For the more advanced user there are many functions and options for you to use with this software.

Anti virus

It is incredibly important to keep up to date with Anti Virus software. There are many different products on the market, most are good at what they do. My personnel recommendation is  McAfee.

The McAfee software comes in different types for different levels of care; but basically there are two versions, one for home users and one for business.

For those of you on BT Broadband option 2 or 3 a full McAfee suite is available free of charge. It has come to my attention that many of the people I speak to are not aware of this.

If you are on BT option 2 or 3 then go to your home page.

Click on “My Account”

Then select BTNetProtect Plus.

Follow the download instructions and the installation will be automatic. Remember to uninstall any other anti virus software first!
